Do You Have to Pay?

In some circumstances, you might have a legitimate reason not to pay your fine.

It’s a bit sneaky, but the last time I needed legal advice, I paid £5 for a trial to chat with an online solicitor called JustAnswer.

Not only did I save £50 on solicitor feeds, I also won my case and didn’t have to pay my £271 fine.

Should I pay a Saba parking fine?

You should pay or appeal your Saba parking ticket within 28 days. If you’ve decided you will pay the ticket, it’s advantageous to pay it within 14 days so you get 50% off.

Not taking any action could prove more costly in the long run.

How to pay a Saba Parking Charge Notice

The Saba Park Services website only states that you can pay for your private parking ticket online through their website.

You can do this as long as you have the PCN reference number from the PCN itself, as well as your car registration number. You will need to contact Saba Park Services UK Ltd if you have lost your PCN number.

Payments can be made via a debit card or credit card. There might be other ways to pay which aren’t listed online. I suggest you check your notice to see if any other payment options are possible, which could be listed on the reverse side of the notice.

Should you pay or appeal a Saba Parking Charge?

Only you can decide to pay or appeal your fine, and your decision should be based on how convincing your arguments and evidence are to win an appeal. Otherwise, it could be in your best interest to pay the 50% reduced fine within the first 14 days.

Sometimes you need to fight back, and other times you need to take your medicine and save yourself more money. You could always get the help of a road traffic lawyer, but this will cost as well.

How to appeal a Saba Park Services fine

You have the right to appeal a Saba Park Services ticket.

The first appeal must be sent to Saba directly. You can do this online or via other methods as stated on your Pakring Charge Notice. There is often a chance to send your appeal in a letter, which I can help with using my free appeal letter guide

The appeal needs to include a good excuse for why you shouldn’t have to pay. And the appeal is made stronger if you can provide evidence to support your claim, such as photo or video evidence. I have discussed this further in my how-to-appeal tickets page

If your appeal is rejected, you have the opportunity to escalate the appeal to an independent appeals panel. Because Saba Park Services is a member of the British Parking Association (BPA), you have a right to escalate the appeal to the Parking on Private Land Appeals Service, otherwise known as POPLA.

Full details on how to do this should be provided by Saba when they reject your first appeal.

Good excuses to appeal a Parking Charge Notice

Motorists have won private parking appeals for a plethora of different reasons. But it’s important to only use genuine excuses without lying. There could be consequences if you lie to get out of the ticket.

You might get out of the ticket due to unavailable payment options, which appears to have been a problem for drivers using a car park managed by Saba – in reference to the reviews about their app. You might also get out of the ticket due to poor or hidden signage upon entry and medical emergencies.

But my personal favourite excuse to fight private parking tickets is the five-minute rule. This is a rule that states you can only be given a parking ticket if you overstay by more than five minutes. In other words, as long as you and your vehicle exit the car park in fewer than five minutes over your allotted time, you can’t be given a ticket.

Getting the support of a Solicitor can take a huge weight off your mind.

Who is liable to pay the Parking Charge?

Private parking companies must ask the person who was driving to pay the parking ticket. However, if they do not know who was driving – which is common – the parking company can ask the vehicle owner to pay the ticket instead. This is known as “Keeper Liability”.

What happens if you ignore a Saba Park Services PCN?

Unlike council parking fines, what happens when you ignore a private parking ticket isn’t as set in stone.

Saba Park Services may try to contact you asking you to pay and add late fees to the amount owed. They might even outsource this part of the debt collection to a debt collection agency which will call you and even write to you. As part of their communication, they may even threaten legal action if you don’t pay.

Court action is a genuine possibility. Saba Park Services Ltd might ask a County Court for a court order to make you pay. This itself adds more fees to the amount owed. And if you still refuse to pay, they can ask the court for permission to recover the debt with bailiffs. They might even ask for money to be taken from your benefits or wages.

Saba Park Services reviews

Saba Park Services currently has 1.2 stars out of five stars out of 130 Google reviews. It’s quite common for car park management companies to receive lots of negative reviews online, especially after disgruntled motorists have received a parking ticket in the post.

However, I picked up on a common theme among the reviews, specifically referencing an inefficient app payment system.

Here are a couple of those reviews:
