We have dealt with many similar cases, and we understand how you feel. We’re ready to help you with your Leeds parking fine. Let’s get started.

Do You Have to Pay?

In some circumstances, you might have a legitimate reason not to pay your fine.

It’s a bit sneaky, but the last time I needed legal advice, I paid £5 for a trial to chat with an online solicitor called JustAnswer.

Not only did I save £50 on solicitor feeds, I also won my case and didn’t have to pay my £271 fine.

Should you pay a Leeds parking ticket straight away?

Unless you have grounds to appeal a Leeds penalty charge notice, you could be better off paying the fine early. Why? Because you’d pay half the amount if you pay within 14 days!

The actual deadline for paying a Leeds Penalty Charge Notice is 28 days. But if you wait that long, you’d pay the full amount. If you wait any longer, you lose the right to appeal!

That said, if you have a good reason to challenge the parking ticket, you have the right to do so.

How do you appeal a Leeds parking ticket?

As mentioned, you have the right to appeal a Leeds parking ticket if you feel it’s unjust or the information it contains is wrong.

You can appeal a Leeds parking fine online and the council will assess whether to uphold your appeal or reject it.

Also, the council should respond to your appeal in a timely manner.

Should you ignore a Leeds parking ticket?

No. It’s never a good idea to ignore parking tickets issued by authorities. First, a council doesn’t have to take you to court to get you to pay.

Second, you could end up with a County Court Judgement (CCJ) on your record. It will ruin your credit rating and the chance of getting credit until the CCJ expires!

Should you pay a Leeds parking fine or can you appeal it?

Provided you have a good excuse to challenge a Leeds parking fine, you should file an appeal within 28 days. Moreover, everything goes on hold when you appeal a Penalty Charge Notice.

On the other hand, if you deserve the fine, you should consider paying it early. If you settle the PCN within 14 days, you get to pay half the amount!

What excuses can be used to appeal a Leeds parking fine?

If you have a valid excuse for appealing a Leeds parking fine, then go for it. I’ve listed some reasons why the council may cancel the PCN if you’ve provided adequate proof:

  • You weren’t given a mandatory grace period before the parking ticket was issued
  • The parking ticket arrived over 28 days after the alleged offence occurred
  • You were parked correctly, paid the right fee, displayed the ticket correctly and did not commit a parking infringement
  • A medical emergency prevented you from returning to your vehicle in time
  • Your car had broken down and you were waiting for assistance
  • You couldn’t pay to park because the machines were out of order
  • Your car was stolen when the ticket was issued

What happens when an appeal is rejected?

You’ll be sent a Notice of Rejection when Leeds Council rejects your appeal against a parking ticket. You then have two choices which are:

  • To pay the parking ticket within 28 days, or
  • File another appeal with an Adjudicator within the 28 days deadline of getting the Notice

When you don’t appeal or pay the Leeds parking ticket within the 28 deadlines, you risk having a Charge Certificate issued against you! You then have 14 days to pay the full fine!

If you don’t pay within 14 days, a court order demanding payment is issued and if you continue to ignore things, a judgement is levied against you!
