Do You Have to Pay?

In some circumstances, you might have a legitimate reason not to pay your fine.

It’s a bit sneaky, but the last time I needed legal advice, I paid £5 for a trial to chat with an online solicitor called JustAnswer.

Not only did I save £50 on solicitor feeds, I also won my case and didn’t have to pay my £271 fine.

Do I have to pay a Britannia parking charge?

First, check the parking ticket was issued correctly before you pay a Britannia Parking charge. If you find the operator served the fine incorrectly, you could have grounds to appeal the charge. But you may have to pay if the operator did everything right.

Should you pay a Britannia Parking fine straight away?

No. Not without first checking the following:

  • Was the parking ticket served correctly
  • Did you get a grace period
  • Were you parked correctly
  • Did you own the vehicle when the ticket was issued
  • Are the details on the ticket correct
  • Did you get the ticket well after the two weeks allowed for an operator to serve it

Only pay a Britannia Parking fine when you’re happy the operator did everything according to the Code of Practice!

Should you appeal a Britannia Parking fine?

Every motorist has the right to dispute a parking fine when they feel it’s unjust. So, if you think you have a good excuse to challenge the ticket, there’s a process to follow.

Plus, you must challenge the ticket within 28 days because you’ll run out of time any later.

You’ll have to complete an appeal form and send it back to the address found on the form. Once the operator gets your appeal, everything stops. In short, the operator can’t take further action until they decide.

This can take up to 35 days!

Make sure you have a good excuse when you appeal the ticket, and you must provide the following information:

  • Vehicle registration number
  • Parking charge reference number

What happens after you appeal a Britannia Parking fine?

You’ll get a letter or an email from the operator telling you whether your appeal is accepted or rejected. If you send in your appeal within 14 days and Britannia rejects it, the operator could let you pay the reduced fine.

But if you appeal later than that, you’ll have to pay the original amount.

Also, the operator must provide details on how to escalate an appeal to POPLA (Parking on Private Land Appeals).

On the other hand, if Britannia Parking upholds your appeal, the operator cancels the ticket.

Can they make you pay a Britannia Parking fine?

Yes, but only with a court order. A private car park management company cannot lawfully demand you pay their parking charge. It’s up to a judge to decide whether you pay or not.

You have two options when you get a parking ticket from an operator. First, you can appeal the ticket. Or you can pay it preferably within two weeks, so you only pay the reduced fine.

Never ignore a parking ticket an operator gives you. For example, Britannia Parking could ask a debt collector to chase you for the payment. Or court proceedings could be issued against you! In short, it’s best to sort things out before it gets to that stage.

I hope the information in my post helps you save time, money, and stress when dealing with a Britannia Parking fine.
