Cookie Policy

1. About this policy

Thrifty Family is a trading name of MoneyNerd Limited. In this policy, ‘we’, ‘us’ and ‘our’ mean MoneyNerd Limited operating as Thrifty Family. This policy explains our use of cookies and similar technologies on thriftyfamily.co.uk, including our debt enquiry form, and how you can control them. Read it alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains our wider use of personal data, including enquiries, introductions, retention, international transfers and your rights.

MoneyNerd Limited is registered in England and Wales under company number 12915403. Our registered address is The Grange, Grange Road, Malvern, WR14 3HA. Our ICO registration number is ZB338550. For privacy questions, email [email protected].

2. What are cookies and similar technologies?

Cookies are small files stored on your device. Similar technologies include pixels, tags, local storage and tracking links that store or access information on your device or record interactions. In this policy, ‘cookies’ includes these technologies where relevant.

First-party cookies use our website’s domain; third-party cookies use another organisation’s domain. A cookie on our domain may still be used with a third-party service. Session cookies normally expire when your browsing session ends. Persistent cookies remain until they expire or you delete them.

Information collected can include online identifiers, IP address, device and browser details, pages viewed, clicks and other website events. An identifier does not have to contain your name to be personal data. Coded or hashed information is not automatically anonymous.

3. Your choices

Your consent is required before optional cookies for analytics, advertising, affiliate measurement or optional features can be used. Strictly necessary cookies do not require consent where they are essential to provide a service you request or transmit a communication. Advertising or commission tracking is not strictly necessary.

You have the right to refuse optional cookies and withdraw consent at any time. Where cookie choices are presented on a page or embedded service, you can make your selection there. You can also contact [email protected] about your choices or to withdraw consent. Continuing to browse, scrolling, clicking a page or submitting an enquiry does not give consent.

Rejecting optional cookies does not prevent you reading our guides or requesting an introduction. An optional feature may remain unavailable until you choose to enable the technology it needs.

On withdrawal, we stop the relevant tracking and processing that relies on consent, remove associated optional cookies and stored identifiers within our control, and notify the relevant providers so they can act on your withdrawal. We treat withdrawal as a request to erase the associated personal data, subject to applicable legal exceptions. Withdrawal does not make earlier lawful processing unlawful. We may keep limited records needed to honour your preferences, demonstrate compliance or handle legal claims on a separate lawful basis. We do not use those records to continue tracking or advertising after you withdraw consent.

Choices may need to be made separately on each browser or device. Clearing cookies can remove your saved preferences. Browser settings can also block or delete cookies, but do not necessarily stop server-side processing or exercise your data protection rights; contact us as well where you want to withdraw consent or exercise your data protection rights.

4. Why we use these technologies

  • Strictly necessary functions: to operate requested services, maintain security and remember privacy choices. Only technology that meets the relevant legal exception belongs in this category.
  • Optional analytics: to understand page use, navigation and website interactions and improve the service. We use consent for optional analytics under this policy. An analytics label does not make advertising measurement exempt from consent.
  • Advertising and conversion measurement: to understand which adverts lead to visits or actions, measure campaign performance and support advertising where you have agreed. This can involve sharing identifiers and events with advertising providers.
  • Affiliate attribution: to identify referrals from links to commercial partners and attribute resulting transactions or commission. We ask for consent where this uses optional device storage or access.
  • Optional features: to provide tools such as messaging, embedded content or personalisation where enabled. Optional tracking associated with a feature remains subject to your choices.

5. Services, cookies and storage

The services below are included in our website configuration or commercial arrangements. Which ones operate depends on the page or feature you use, the technologies enabled and your choices. Listing a provider does not mean it receives every enquiry.

  • Google Analytics and PostHog: website analytics and interaction measurement. Google Ads: advertising and conversion measurement. See Google’s privacy policy and PostHog’s privacy policy.
  • Meta, including Facebook and Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat and Pinterest: advertising tags or pixels and associated event measurement. See Meta’s privacy policy, TikTok’s privacy policy, Snap’s privacy policy and Pinterest’s privacy policy.
  • ActiveCampaign: website interaction tracking associated with communications and marketing on our debt enquiry journey. See ActiveCampaign’s privacy policy. Cookie consent does not itself subscribe you to marketing.
  • Affiliate offers: where Thrifty Family displays an offer provided through Impact Radius Limited (impact.com), referral tracking may be used to attribute visits or transactions and calculate commission. MoneyNerd’s business uses impact.com for offers such as Wise and JustAnswer. See impact.com’s privacy policy. Selecting an affiliate link does not authorise us to disclose your debt-enquiry details to those businesses.
  • VWO: website testing and interaction measurement on our debt enquiry form. See VWO’s visitor-data information.
  • Google Maps Places: address-search features on our debt enquiry form. YouTube: embedded video content on selected pages. See Google’s privacy policy. The applicable consent requirements depend on the purpose of the storage or access; not every use is strictly necessary.
  • Senja: testimonial display and associated widget measurement. Its widget uses a visitor identifier called ‘sj_v_id’ in local storage, configured without an automatic expiry. This storage can persist after you close your browser and can be cleared through browser settings. See Senja’s privacy policy. Optional measurement is subject to your choices.

Debt enquiry form: ‘XSRF-TOKEN’ and ‘moneynerd_session’ support form security and the form session. The form’s responses configure both cookies to expire two hours after they are set or renewed. Session and security functions are separate from optional analytics and advertising on the form; a first-party cookie is not automatically strictly necessary.

Cookie expiry is separate from how long information collected using that cookie is retained. We retain personal data only for as long as needed for the explained purpose and applicable recordkeeping requirements, as described in our Privacy Policy. You can ask [email protected] about a particular technology and its storage or retention period. Provider notices explain their own processing; they do not replace our responsibility to explain the technology used on Thrifty Family.

6. Server-side measurement and enquiry information

Our advertising and measurement may use Meta tools, including its Conversions API, which sends measurement events from a server rather than solely through a browser pixel. Where enabled and subject to the applicable permissions, events may relate to website interactions or an enquiry or referral outcome. Our Privacy Policy explains this processing.

Sending an event from a server does not remove consent requirements where it involves storage or access on your device for a purpose that requires consent. We use consent for the related processing of personal data collected through consent-dependent tracking, and respect your choice across the relevant browser and server-side activity. Any separate processing must have its own lawful basis and be explained in our Privacy Policy.

Requesting an introduction, providing financial information or receiving communications about an enquiry is separate from agreeing to tracking or marketing. A cookie choice does not, by itself, authorise the disclosure or reuse of debt, health or other enquiry information for advertising.

7. Other websites and services

When you follow a link to another provider’s website or use a partner-operated service, that provider’s cookie and privacy information applies to its own processing. Its choices may need to be managed separately. Providers that collect information through an embedded service must also be identified at the relevant point; an embedded feature does not remove our responsibilities for technology used on Thrifty Family.

MoneyNerd Limited also operates the MoneyNerd website. Common ownership does not, by itself, authorise reuse of your personal data across brands or make cookie or marketing choices for one site apply to another. Any such use must have the applicable lawful basis and permissions.

8. Changes to this policy

We update this policy when our technology or processing changes and show the revised date above. We explain material changes and ask for fresh consent where required before starting the relevant optional processing. Publishing an updated policy or your continued use of the site does not itself give consent.

9. Contact and complaints

Email [email protected] or write to MoneyNerd Limited (Thrifty Family), The Grange, Grange Road, Malvern, WR14 3HA if you have questions about cookies, want help with your choices or want to exercise your data protection rights. Our Privacy Policy explains those rights and how to complain to us. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
